Search "Umrah cost" and you'll find everything from "$900!!" clickbait to $8,000 luxury packages with no explanation. Here are honest numbers for US travelers, itemized, so you can budget like an adult.
Economy round trips from East Coast gateways (JFK, IAD) to Jeddah typically run $850–$1,400 off-peak; West Coast and interior cities add $100–$300. Ramadan pushes fares up 50–100%. Booking 3+ months out matters more than which airline.
Hotel price is a function of one thing above all: walking distance to the Haram. A clean 3-star 800m+ out runs $90–150/night; 4-star within a 10-minute walk runs $160–260; the Clock Tower and Haram-view 5-stars run $300–950+. Madinah is generally 20–30% cheaper than Makkah for equivalent distance. Two people sharing a room halves the per-person cost — most packages price on double occupancy.
The Umrah visa (including the mandatory insurance) typically lands in this range depending on processing channel. US passport holders can also enter on a Saudi tourist eVisa (~$130) which permits Umrah — see our visa comparison guide.
Jeddah airport → Makkah → Madinah → airport by shared shuttle or the Haramain high-speed rail. Private car service costs more but is worth it for elders and families with children.
Cafeteria meals near the Haram are inexpensive; hotel breakfast buffets and restaurant dinners push you to the high end. Budget extra for Zamzam, gifts, and sadaqah.
